About Us

Our Mission

“The objects of this Fraternity shall be to foster high ideals of friendship among women, to promote their educational and cultural interests, to create in them a true sense of social responsibility, and to develop in them the best qualities of character.”

“The Do Good Sisterhood”

HOW IT ALL BEGAN…

The Delta Gamma Fraternity was founded on December 25th, 1873, in Oxford, Mississippi at The Lewis School for Girls. Delta Gamma has three founders: Anna Boyd Ellington, Eva Webb Dodd, and Mary Comfort Leonard. Today, Delta Gamma has grown to include 152 collegiate chapters and over 250,000 initiated members. Members of the organization uphold our values of fostering friendship among women, promoting cultural and educational interests, creating a sense of responsibility, as well as developing high qualities of character.

In addition to these values, Delta Gamma focuses on philanthropic work. At its founding, DG was meant to stand for “Do Good.” Our philanthropy, Service for Sight, includes supporting the five schools for the visually impaired founded by Delta Gamma, as well as other organizations promoting vision preservation.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN AT SAINT LOUIS UNIVERSITY…

The Eta Theta chapter of Delta Gamma was established on November 18th, 2001, at Saint Louis University as the 141st chapter of the fraternity. At its beginning, the chapter initiated 106 members. During formal recruitment in the fall, Delta Gamma became the largest chapter at SLU. Since its founding, the chapter has initiated 787 sisters. The chapter has also received multiple awards from Delta Gamma throughout its existence, including Most Outstanding Chapter 2018-2019, the Founder’s Award in 2004, and the George Banta Award in 2006.

Many traditions create a strong foundation of connection for members of Eta Theta. At our chapters each week, we highlight the accomplishments of our sisters and spread love with the sunshine basket, where members write messages to lift each other up. Before chapters, you can find dozens of Delta Gammas grabbing dinner from the Ameren Café (B-School) and creating community. Our chapter also hosts sisterhoods, which are planned events for members to bond and meet new people. A favorite among members is the annual trip to Eckert’s for an afternoon of apple-picking and shopping for delicious fall-inspired foods. Not all moments are planned, though. Whether getting up early to watch the sunrise on Art Hill or ending the day with a sunset drive on Clayton Road, there’s always the opportunity for time to spend with one another.

As a chapter, Eta Theta strives to foster support and sisterhood between its amazing members.
